Training-Trail Bosals
A Don West
Training-Trail Bosal is a caveson type noseband- bosal
that fits firm and low on the horse's nose, just above
the horse's lips. This gives the rider direct contact
and maximum leverage that allows the horse to be
"pulled" with a "take-tug-and release" on the reins,
without inflicting pain, thus avoiding inviting
resistance and resentment from the horse, a problem
that often comes from starting a horse under saddle in
a bit. We recomend that you use the 1" Wide Nose Band
Bosal (shown here) for starting, and for the early
training of all naturally gaited horses, including
Paso Finos and Peruvian Pasos. Use our thicker
3/4" or 5/8" Training- Trail Reins with this Bosal. In
the picture the bosal is
shown warn over our Training-Trail Halter. That's
because Don believes that a horse should always wear a
halter and lead line when it's in-hand or
under-saddle.

 |
The Don West Training-Trail Narrow Noseband
Bosal is 3/4" wide and 16" long. It's made from
multiple layers of leather, with a soft leather
against the horse's nose for comfort that wraps around
the edge of a heavier layer of leather to give the
Bosal firmness. There is a malleable metal banding
sewn between the two leather layers over the top of
the Bosal that can be easily shaped to fit comfortably
around the horse's nose. Two stainless steel D-rings
are placed about 6" apart on the top of the Bosal to
clip your Training-Trail Reins into. A 1/2" leather
strap holds the bosal closed around the horse's nose,
and a 3/4" double and stitched headband makes the
Bosal easy to adjust to the right position on the
horse's nose. This Bosal is perfect for finishing a
horse in bosal, for casual trail riding, and for
riding in "four reins", introducing the horse gently
into the bit when the bosal is combined with our
Training-Trail Headstall, our bit, and a smaller
diameter set of our Training-Trail Reins. (Reins are
sold separately). One size fits all horses.

Training-Trail Halter
Not just
another rope halter with a popular clinician's name
associated with it -- this is a unique, must have
training tool! Shown here with our
Training-Trail Lead Line. Shaped to fit lower over the
horse's nose, giving more leverage and stopping the
horse from pulling away from the handler. This
self-adjusting noseband slides tight around the
horse's nose with pressure on the lead line, giving
the trainer a positive, immediate touch in halter
training, and maximum control without inflicting pain.
Made either with 3/4” doubled and stitched nylon web,
or 3/4"doubled and stitched leather.

The Don West Training-Trail Halter (shown here with
our Training-Trail Lead-Lunge Line) is made from 3/4",
double and stitched nylon webbing. Not just another
halter, it is shaped to fit lower on the horse’s nose
than other halters, giving you more leverage to
achieve the right results when teaching the horse to
give to the touch of your hands. What really makes
this Don West designed Training-Trail Halter so
different from all those knotted rope halters that are
being enforced by so many "clinicians" these days, is
the self-adjusting nose band. When you take the slack
out of your Training-Trail Lead-Lung Line, the nose
band of the Halter pulls closed around the horses
nose, giving you direct contact so that each tug you
give on the line is felt immediately and accurately by
you're horse. When you put slack in the line, the nose
band loosens too. Horses like getting accurate, easy
to understand cues. The Training-Trail Halter will
help the horse understand what you want, and help you
to keep him from getting confused by "false signals"
that come from loose halters.
Available in
black, brown, maroon, green, and red.
Sizes:
Baby, Weanling, Yearling, S, M, L (most average size
horses), XL |

Training-Trail Headstalls
Shown here
worn over our
Training-Trail Halter because Don believes that a
trail horse should always wear a halter and lead line,
and never be lead around by the reins. Beautifully simple
and easy to adjust, this Training-Trail Headstall
works well with any bit. Made from 3/4" double and stitched nylon web, or
in double and stitched saddle leather. There are no
Chicago Screws in this headstall to fall out and cause
problems out on the trail. One size fits all horses
that are old enough to be in bit.

Training-Trail Easy-On Crupper
Snaps into
the D-ring in the back of all of our saddles, then
snaps
around tail...easy on...easy off! Put it on after you
are saddled and cinched up and avoid the hassle of
having to slide the saddle forward into place after
putting the crupper around the horse's tail. This is
not only a convenience feature, it's a safety issue
too, and can prevent the possibility of a "wreck".

Training-Trail Reins & Romal |
 |
These Don
West Training-Trail Reins are made with 3/4" nylon
rope. On one end (where they snap into the bit) they
have stainless steel snaps that are securley bound to
the rope with nylon webbing which is then covered with
a handsome leather sheath. At the other end, where the
reins are divided in half, a stainless steel O-ring is
secured in place with a leather ring. These reins are
best used with our Training-Trail Wide Nose Band Bosal
for starting a horse under saddle, or for the bosal
reins when training in "four reins" with a
Training-Trail Narrow Nose Band Bosal in combination
with our 3/4" or 1/2" Training-Trail Reins. Two sets
of 1" wide leather rings surround each rein and can be
slid up or down and placed in the desired spot, to act
as a "Brail" hand guide, letting your hands know where
they are on the reins and that they're equi-distant to
the bit...without you having to look down to visually
check (which changes your balance on the horse).
Available in black and brown. $59.95

nylon rope. They have stainless steel snaps that snap
into the bit. The snaps are securley bound to the rope
with nylon webbing which is then covered with a

reins are divided in half, a stainless steel O-ring is
secured in place with a leather ring. They can be used
for a finished horse, one "straight-up" in the bit, or
for the bit reins when training in "four reins" with a
Training-Trail Narrow Nose Band Bosal and our 3/4"
Training-Trail Reins. Two sets of 1" wide leather
rings surround each rein and can be slid up or down
and placed in the desired spot to act as a "Brail"

The Don West
Training-Trail Romal is made from 5/8" nylon rope
(thesame rope that we use in our Training-Trail Reins
and Lead-Lunge Lines. The romal is 3' long, with a
leather popper on one end, and a stainless steel snap
on the other. The snap is secured with nylon webbing
that is covered by a handsome leather sheath. The
Romal attaches to the O-ring in the end of any of our
reins, or you can clip the Romal to your saddle. The
T-T Romal makes a handy rein extender and/or retrieval
system when you're just sitting around on your horse
and he wants to put his head down to graze. Why be
forced to hang over you're horses head, trying to hang
onto the reins, when you can clip your Romal to you're
reins and sit upright and comfortable while your
friend grabs a bite? And, of course, the Romal can be
used as a request enforcer for those few unpleasant
moments when ol' Dobin decides he just ain't gona' go!
Of course you won't need to use it for that purpose if
you have it along, but just leave it at home once,
and... An amazingly useful tool.
Available in
black, brown, chestnut, and natural (light oil).

The Don West
Training-Trail Lead-Lunge Line is made from 1/2" nylon rope.
It is 9' long. It has a stainless steel snap on one end,
securly fastened to the rope with a piece of nylon webbing
that is handsomly covered with a leather sheath. The other end
is finished with a 1" wide leather ring, to keep the line from
slipping through your hand. The Training-Trail Lead-Lunge Line
snaps to, and works perfectly with the Training-Trail Halter.
That equipment combination can (and should) be worn at all
times while you are handling or riding your horse. The Halter
and Lunge-Lead fit cleanly under the Training-Trail Headstall
and/or Training-Trail Bosal. Don't lead or tie your horse with
your reins! Always use your Training-Trail Halter and
Lead-Lunge Line for those purposes...it's just good
horsemanship.

brown. $29.95
